Centres for the elderly

BBK’s centres for the elderly have long been part of its Social Projects. Their origins go back to 1965, when the pre-BBK savings banks began to create these centres in response to the social needs of the elderly at the time. The centres were conceived as places for the elderly to meet and socialise, with activities focusing on board games, reading and coffee encounters.

This formula soon had to be altered to adapt to major social changes, to facilitate social participation, help to educate the elderly, and help them gain access to many other activities, in a bid to improve their standard of living.
