Agricultural fairs are events with a long-standing and deeply-rooted tradition in Bizkaia. Although these events have evolved over the years, they currently maintain their original essence: the buying and selling of traditionally-made local products combined with celebrations and the gathering of citizens. The producers from Bizkaia use this marketing channel for direct selling as well as for disseminating and promoting their products and activity.

But, in turn, the agricultural and livestock fairs have become meeting points between the rural and urban worlds. The rural world is the realm in which many customs still remain, providing our society with its own cultural identity.

Within this framework, the support the BBK has provided the fairs is long-standing, stretching back to 1977 and these have gained further relevance both in size and number. In 1977,12 fairs were sponsored, whilst in 2019, BBK collaborated in a total of 107 fairs distributed among 68 municipalities of Bizkaia.

The current guidelines from the health authorities, resulting from the COVID pandemic are preventing the organisation of agricultural fairs. BBK considers that the responsible thing to do now is for us all to work together to put an end to this crisis, whilst seeking alternatives in order to mitigate its effects, such as strengthening our direct sales channel on the online store, tienda online de BBK Azoka.
