Ekin is an incubation programme for entrepreneurs working on projects with a social or environmental impact, offering training, mentoring and strategic support. About Us

We are the BBK Banking Foundation’s social entrepreneurship incubator, designed to help entrepreneurs to convert their ideas into sustainable businesses with a positive impact. We work with Bridge for Billions to provide specialised training, personalised mentoring and access to a community of entrepreneurs committed to change.

Target audience

Entrepreneurs

We are looking for people with innovative business projects or ideas who want to be supported to get underway and generate a positive impact. Projects must meet the following requirements to take part in Ekin:

  • Be viable and with success potential in any sector.
  • Be in the pre-growth phase, i.e., still not be operational or be incorporated but not operational.
  • Located in Bizkaia, with international or local outreach.
  • Have a social component, aligned with the mission of the BBK Banking Foundation.
  • Have a team whose members are of legal age.

Mentors
We are looking for experienced professionals who wish to mentor the selected projects throughout the incubation programme. They must meet the following requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ post-academic professional experience.

  • Be willing to spend 1 hours and 30 minutes a week during the four-month incubation period.
  • Be interested in mentoring social projects of Bizkaia.
  • Be willing to run weekly sessions to guide initiatives for this purpose.

Phase and key dates
  • Registration opens: Entrepreneurs and mentors wishing to take part must submit their applications by the dates established in each edition.
  • Project selection: There will be an in-depth assessment to choose the participants with greatest potential.
  • Incubation phase: The selected projects receive four months of training, mentoring and strategic support.
  • Demo Day: Public presentation of the finalist projects.
  • Prizes of the edition: Prizes of up to €10,000 are awarded to the best three projects.

    Doctolingo

    Doctolingo is a digital platform that complements medical studies. It is specially designed for students preparing for the MIR exam, as well as first-year students, helping them familiarize themselves from the very beginning with clinical thinking and reasoning.

    Metabokare

    Metabokare is a chemically functionalized fiber-optic biosensor platform that converts saliva into metabolic insights in seconds. It shifts the paradigm from delayed, point-in-time measurements to IMMEDIATE, non-invasive metabolic tracking.

    IBD Itxas Bio Design

    Ecodesign, manufacturing and marketing surf boards with a low environmental impact using new biomaterials. The main aim of the proposed initiative is to develop new solutions to produce surf boards, by developing, optimising and marketing biomaterials based on different formulas to meet the functional and technical requirements of surfing. The developed materials will allow bespoke tables to be built with similar technical performances as those currently on the market.

    Extranjería Cardinales

    A legal consultancy firm specialised in immigration; it advises and handles formalities for foreigners interested in settling or regularising their status in Spain. The services are for both individuals who are undocumented in Spain and for people abroad who wish to move to live or work in the country. Furthermore, the consultancy firm helps companies that need to obtain work permits for foreign employees, along with a range of additional services in related areas.

    The first sensory gallery of the Basque Country is in Bilbao; its purpose is to create happy memories, awaken the imagination, encourage happiness through sensations and connect through art, by inviting each visitor to express themselves and be inspired. Jappy offers a sensory-artistic-fun-emotional experience that has a positive impact on the mental health of our visitors, by fostering creativity, happiness, real connect and unforgettable moments; in short, it is a real boost to your energy and wellbeing.

    A Horse-Assisted Therapy monographic centre, located in a natural environment that improves the quality of life for people with functional diversity and their families. In addition, it promotes animal welfare and environmental care.

    Cobbler Materials

    Development of a new multi-layer polymeric geocomposite material for waste management companies such as landfills, treatment plants and thermal power stations, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    BirGoxo

    A sustainable food initiative that fights against local food waste, valuing the by-products generated in the industrial production of vegetable drinks. Its healthy pastries are gluten-free, with natural ingredients and 100% vegetable.
