Create, transform and discover new ways to dress while caring for the planet

Are you passionate about fashion but concerned about the impact the textile industry has on the planet? Can you imagine creating your own environmentally friendly materials and transforming old clothes or forgotten fabric scraps into unique and practical new pieces?

In this programme, three Bilbao communities —La Perrera Espazioa, Gaztegune La Esperanza and Sasoiko— will come together to create, experiment and learn across generations. It is a pioneering space where younger and older participants can share knowledge, experiences and new ideas to promote more sustainable fashion and consumption habits.

No previous sewing experience or scientific knowledge is required. All you need is curiosity, creativity and a willingness to work as part of a team.

Throughout the sessions, we will learn from experts and compare past and present consumption habits. We will combine traditional sewing and clothing-reuse techniques with new environmental trends and the possibilities offered by innovation in fashion.

We will also create our own biomaterials, including bioceramics, bioplastics, natural dyes and bio-based threads, using natural materials and locally sourced waste. Participants will explore upcycling techniques to transform unused clothing and fabric scraps into new, useful and personalised objects.

The work carried out during the programme will have an impact beyond the sessions themselves. Participants will contribute to a final collective exhibition and help create a community guide to sustainable consumption. This resource will share the knowledge, ideas and habits developed in the laboratory with people across Bizkaia.
