Innovation: What’s New?

BBK Kuna brings together Jorge Barrero and Mariola Urrea to reflect on the future of innovation and the impact of artificial intelligence.

As part of the Inspiring Futures initiative, this session will explore new ways of understanding, measuring and fostering innovation in a context of rapid technological transformation.

BBK Kuna will host this new edition of Inspiring Futures in its Ganbara Hall, a programme designed to bring Bizkaia the latest global knowledge and trends through leading experts and internationally recognised voices. The aim of the series is to translate these insights into practical ideas that help drive the social, economic and technological development of the region.

The event will feature Jorge Barrero, Director General of the Cotec Foundation for Innovation, and Mariola Urrea, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Institutional Relations at the Menéndez Pelayo International University.

The session will begin with Jorge Barrero’s keynote presentation, “”Innovation: What’s New?””, in which he will reflect on new ways of generating, interpreting and measuring innovation in an era shaped by accelerating technological change. His presentation will explore the role of artificial intelligence as a driver of transformation, technology as a key factor in strategic sovereignty, and the importance of developing new indicators to better understand the innovative capacity and impact of different regions.

The keynote will be followed by a conversation between Jorge Barrero and Mariola Urrea, expanding on the main ideas presented during the lecture. Together, they will discuss the current challenges and opportunities surrounding innovation, as well as some of the key trends likely to shape its future, with particular attention to the European context.
